Née le 22 juillet 1987 à Alger-Centre dans une famille intellectuelle, Amel Chohra a grandi dans un environnement nourri par la culture et des valeurs profondes. Après avoir fait ses études secondaires au lycée Saint-Élisabeth d'Alger, elle s’est rendue en Belgique, où elle a intégré l'Académie des Beaux-Arts. C’est au cœur de cet apprentissage qu’elle a développé une passion pour l’art, en étudiant la peinture, le dessin et l’histoire de l’art. Ce parcours lui a également permis de s’ouvrir à la richesse du partage culturel, apprenant à respecter et à apprécier la diversité des perspectives. Dans ses œuvres, cette subtilité se traduit par une fusion entre ses racines algériennes et son expérience européenne, où chaque trait et chaque couleur racontent une histoire d'émotion et de rencontre.
Born on July 22, 1987, in central Algiers to an intellectual family, Amel Chohra grew up in an environment deeply rooted in culture and strong values. Her childhood, marked by Algeria’s dark decade, unfolded between contrasts and resilience. She spent her time between Algiers, the southern lands owned by her grandfather, and her maternal Kabyle homeland, which she visited during the holidays.
These journeys between desert and greenery sharpened her perception: she learned to observe each inhabitant in their environment, to feel the landscapes in all their diversity, and to capture the silent strength of places. After completing her secondary studies at the Lycée Sainte-Élisabeth in Algiers, she moved to Belgium, where she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. It was there that she deepened her passion for painting, drawing, and art history.
Since marrying in 2010, she has built her family life in Belgium—a country she loves deeply and where she found personal and artistic balance. The Belgian landscape, its climate, its quietness, and its singular light have broadened her perception of the world. In Belgium, she learned to feel differently, to observe with distance and gentleness.
Her painting is African—anchored in her Algerian roots, her memories, her colors, her lands. But it is seen through a Belgian gaze—a gaze shaped by displacement, contemplation, and time. This gaze understands things differently: it questions, reframes, and enriches.
Her work is a meeting point of memory and perception, of belonging and movement. Each brushstroke carries an intimate link between two continents; each color conveys an emotion nurtured by lived experience and reflection. Amel Chohra offers a painting that is both rooted and open—a deeply inhabited art form where Africa speaks through the sensitivity of a European perspective.

I am a multidimensional artist, a creator where nature, human emotion, and drawing intertwine in a symphony of unique expressions. My art is a constant quest for purification and harmony—an exploration of the deep vibrations that connect humans to their natural environment.
Through painting, I transmit my feelings and visions, capturing the raw forces of nature as well as the subtle nuances of the human soul. Drawing or painting is, to me, a language—a way to express the invisible, to give form to what is felt and lived, beyond words.

la roche du Tassili est en grand format puise sa force dans la mémoire ancestrale du désert, là où les roches du Tassili racontent l’histoire du monde bien avant l’homme. Les couleurs — rouille, ocre, bruns profonds, bleus minéraux — semblent arrachées à la pierre elle-même, comme si la terre avait parlé à travers la main de l’artiste.
La composition est dominée par une forme blanche centrale, presque une faille, une ouverture, un souffle. Ce vide n’est pas une absence : il est le cœur vivant de la roche, le lieu sacré où la matière se tait pour laisser passer la lumière. Autour, la matière tourbillonne, se déchire, s’accumule — comme les sédiments du temps.
Il y a là une tension entre le poids des millénaires et le geste immédiat de la peinture. La toile devient alors un seuil entre le visible et l’invisible, entre la mémoire de la terre et une émotion brute, intérieure. L’énergie minérale du désert se mêle à une fragilité silencieuse. Le Tassili devient un corps, une mémoire, un cri muet.
C’est une œuvre qui invite à écouter le silence des pierres, à ressentir le vide comme une présence, à se laisser toucher par ce que la nature murmure quand elle semble immobile.
The Rock of Tassili
This large-scale painting draws its strength from the ancestral memory of the desert, where the rocks of Tassili tell the story of the world long before mankind. The colors — rust, ochre, deep browns, mineral blues — seem torn from the stone itself, as if the earth had spoken through the artist’s hand.
The composition is dominated by a central white shape, almost a fault line, an opening, a breath. This void is not empty: it is the living heart of the rock, the sacred place where matter falls silent to let light pass through. Around it, the material swirls, tears, accumulates — like the sediments of time.
There is a tension here between the weight of millennia and the immediate gesture of painting. The canvas becomes a threshold between the visible and the invisible, between the memory of the earth and a raw, personal emotion. The raw energy of the desert merges with a fragile, inner depth. The Tassili becomes a body, a memory, a silent cry.
This is a work that invites us to listen to the silence of stones, to feel the void as presence, to be moved by what nature whispers when it appears still.

The Tuareg people and their deep connection to nature are a profound source of inspiration in my painting. Their way of life, in harmony with the elements, reflects an ancestral wisdom that resonates through every line in my work.
Amazigh symbols—widespread across North Africa and shared by both the Berber and Tuareg peoples—ignite my imagination. These motifs, filled with mystery and history, speak of a universal bond with the earth and the forces of nature.
Through my creations, I explore this cultural and spiritual heritage, paying tribute to the timeless richness that connects us to our environment.
Le Bruit du Silence
Dans mes tableaux, je cherche à retranscrire le regard d’un enfant face à un monde qu’il ne comprend pas toujours, mais qu’il observe avec une intensité silencieuse. Ce regard, à la fois curieux et profond, capte des fragments de réalité, des sensations brutes, des émotions que les mots ne peuvent encore nommer.
Mon travail artistique est une exploration de cette vision intérieure : celle d’un enfant qui perçoit les choses autrement, qui transforme ce qu’il ressent en images, en formes, en couleurs. Il ne s’agit pas de raconter des faits, mais plutôt de transmettre une atmosphère, une mémoire diffuse, faite de lumière, de silence, d’impressions fortes et fugitives.
Chaque trait de pinceau évoque cette capacité propre à l’enfance de traverser les choses sans les juger, de se protéger dans l’imaginaire, de faire de l’invisible un refuge. Il y a, dans cette période de la vie, une énergie douce mais persistante, un mélange de fragilité et de puissance qui continue de nourrir mon expression artistique.
Certaines de mes œuvres, plus intimes, naissent de ce territoire intérieur. Je les partage parfois en fragments, comme des souvenirs diffus, mais elles restent avant tout un espace de réflexion personnelle — une manière d’honorer ce regard premier, encore intact, qui continue à m’accompagner dans ma création.
In my paintings, I try to capture the gaze of a child facing a world they do not fully understand, yet observe with quiet intensity. This gaze—curious, deep, and unfiltered—absorbs fragments of reality, raw sensations, and emotions that words have not yet learned to express.
My artistic work is an exploration of that inner vision: the way a child sees and feels differently, turning perception into image, emotion into shape and color. It’s not about telling specific stories, but rather conveying an atmosphere—a diffuse memory made of light, silence, and fleeting impressions.
Each brushstroke evokes that unique ability children have to pass through experience without judgment, to retreat into imagination, to make the invisible a place of safety. There is, in childhood, a gentle yet persistent energy—a mix of vulnerability and strength—that continues to shape my creative expression.
Some of my more intimate works are born from that inner space. I occasionally share glimpses of them, like distant echoes, but they remain first and foremost a personal realm of reflection—a way to honor that original gaze, still alive within me, that guides my practice.
